Festival OCTAVE offers a rare opportunity to experience Angela Yixuan Miao, a 13-year-old piano prodigy, preceded by a masterclass led by Gregory Chaverdian. A full day designed for listening, learning and being moved by the piano.

A day designed for listening, learning and wonder

From 1:00 PM, the audience can experience an intensive masterclass with Gregory Chaverdian and participants from the EPFL Chopin competition. At 5:00 PM, Angela Yixuan Miao takes the stage for a two-part recital featuring Scarlatti, Mozart, Brahms, Chopin, Liszt and Volodos.

The artists

Portrait of Gregory Chaverdian
Gregory Chaverdian
Gregory Chaverdian has been Professor of Piano at Concordia University since 2000. He holds a Master of Music and a doctorate in piano performance from the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan. In 1989, he won First Prize at the International Music Competition in Rio de Janeiro. As a soloist and collaborative pianist, he has performed across Europe, North America and South America, including with the Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra, the New Brunswick Symphony Orchestra and I Musici de Montréal.

Angela Yixuan Miao
Angela Yixuan Miao, born in 2013 in China, began studying piano at age six in Montréal with Gregory Chaverdian. Recognized early for her talent, she performed with orchestra in her first year of study and recorded Chopin’s Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 with string quintet at age ten. Winner of numerous international competitions, she received First Prize in Category C at Genève Musicale 2025, as well as the Audience Award and the Orchestra Prize.
